Utaha-senpai! [GK ver.]

Hello, everyone!

Autumn somehow crept up without warning, bringing a pile of things to take care of and leaving less time for my favorite hobby...

Nevertheless, I managed to finish another kit, a very simple and pleasant one to work on—

Meet Utaha-senpai

This garage kit spontaneously appeared for preorder on E2046, was ordered just because, and quietly arrived at my door six months later. In the meantime, I managed to watch the second season of Saekano and be a little disappointed, but I didn't lose interest in my lovely senpai.

All the parts fit together quite well; I only had to put a more or less thick pin into almost everything. The strange support under the right leg turned out to be neither one thing nor the other, so I simply didn't use it.

What was difficult and unusual?

1. The tights! I'd never painted anything like them before, so first I did what I thought was right and only then went looking for tutorials. Well, my sequence was the reverse of theirs (the pros: light primer—skin color—dark tights; me: black primer—highlighting ). I then considered giving them a gloss coat, but settled on semi-gloss (satin).

Gloss varnish on the shoes, matte on the left leg, satin on the right.

2. Stripes! Pain and humiliation... but I managed to fix the situation. A note for the future: masks are everything.

The garage kit was based on artwork where the little tongue sticking out looks cute, but real life is different... or perhaps you just have to know how to make it look good.

3. And finally, the base. I should have cut the letters out of adhesive tape and painted them that way, to keep the paint from bleeding under the paper as it did here. I more or less managed to touch it up with a pen.

And that's really all. It seems to me that things are turning out a little better still—and most importantly, I got a tremendous amount of pleasure from this kit (yes, I'm making excuses for the flaws)).
